Corsair H60 or cooler master hyper 212 evo

Hi, I want to buy a new cooler but dont know what to choose. I heard both of these coolers are good but dont know what to get. I have an i5 2500k running at 90 degrees on stock cooler when i play games and therefore need a new cooler. I plan to overclock and want a one that will give me the lower temp whilst overclocked and gaming

I would go with the CM 212. Why, price and air cooling is sufficient even clocking the CPU to about 4.5GHz.

If you plan to go around 4.3-4.4GHz the Hyper 212 EVO 'should' do you fine. If you want to push towards 5GHz or more then you need to look into something more powerful like the H100i or Noctua NH-D14.

The H60 will give you better temps than the Hyper 212 EVO, but not by a huge amount.

Approaching 5GHz I would consider something more powerful than the H60, 5GHz is approaching H100 territory. Here is a test where the differential on H60 is 44°C http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Corsair-H60-CPU-Cooler-Review/1681/6

Just so you know...

EVERY overclock is different. Even two CPU's of the exact same model will overclock differently. This is what nukemaster was referring to when he said you need a "damn good chip" to hit 5GHz. You get CPU's that overclock well and others not so well - its just luck of the draw.

There are also countless other factors such as motherboard, case, ambient room temperature. The list goes on....

So if you see someone getting 5GHz with a certain setup this doesn't guarantee you will achieve 5GHz even with the exact same setup. You might get more, you might get less, it's all about tinkering around until you find the stable limit for your particular chip.
