Corsair hx series hx750w vs hx850w, is it worth it?

I see that the hx850 has 2 more pci-e connections than the hx750, and the 850 has higher input current, what is this? it also has slightly higher output @ 12v what is this? it also has 4 more peripheral connections. What is this? The 850 is only $30 more, I don't really see myself crossfiring, but maybe if the gpu(msi 7950 is my plan, but I'm open to suggestions) becomes obsolete or something (good future, proofing?) , but that is hopefully a long ways away

If you don't want to crossfire, you only need a 550w power supply - if you see yourself doing it in the future, go with the 750w.

While the 750 model should be more than adequate for a single graphics card setup, here are a few points:

1) The HX850 has better customer reviews
2) The HX850 is currently out of stock (at your link)
3) It's not necessary in general to "future-proof" as future graphics cards tend to use lower power for higher performance so your overall requirement may be identical.

As for the differences in input current and output voltage I didn't see that in the description, but it's not really relevant to your decision.

really?? I was about to say that maybe I should get the ax850 because it is FULLY modular and is supposedly more quiet and efficient, what is ripple and voltage stability, if you don't mind answering my dumb question? 😀

Ripple and voltage stability:
Wall current is sinusoidal (a wave). The Power Supply converts this into Direct Current. The amount of deviation is "ripple" I believe. For example, a swimming pool might be 12 feet in depth (compare to 12 Volts) and the small waves are deviations in depth (versus deviation in Voltage). As long as the RIPPLE is within certain parameters, the motherboard, graphics card or other device will work fine as they also are designed to accept a certain Voltage with allowance for deviation in that voltage (which is why certain components like Capacitors can temporarily store power like a battery in case of sudden drops in Voltage).

Voltage stability is how well it can maintain a voltage (i.e. 12 Volts) when it's under LOAD.

Generally you don't have to worry about these small details as long as a review indicates the PSU is fairly good. Mainly you have to worry about:
- is the Quality adequate?
- is there any coil noise or other issues (including failure rate)?
- does the PSU meet my power and connection requirements?

The HX850 appears to be slightly better based on reviews and the 140mm fan, however it's also out of stock here.

I think you can probably do any remaining research yourself.
