Hello:

I'm about to embark on a new system build and would like to salvage what I can from the old. This includes a very reliable Corsair HX620w PSU.

Need to make sure this won't have any issues powering an i7-8700K (w/modest OC from auto via mobo) and single GTX 1080 at a factory overclock (looking at cards like the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 or ASUS GTX 1080 ROG STRIX).

Otherwise, pretty standard system with a few SSDs, HDs, 16 GB RAM, etc.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It is electrically sufficient but lacks any 150-Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

That PSU only came with two 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors so you'll need to use adapter(s) for the 150-Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector on the graphics card.

Thanks for cluing me in to that, ko888.

Since I'm completely ignorant on the matter, could you confirm... Is this (Cable Matters (2-Pack) 6-Pin PCIe to 8-Pin PCIe Adapter Power Cable - 4 Inches) what you're referring to?

Thanks.

Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8 GB [GV-N1080G1 GAMING-8GD]
• requires one 150-Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 [ROG STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING]
• requires one 75-Watt 6-pin and one 150-Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors

Check the two PCI Express supplementary power cables that came with your Corsair HX620. Some earlier manufactured retail boxes included only two cables with 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors on them. Later manufactured retail boxes changed it to two cables with 150-Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors on them.

If you happen to only have the earlier 75-Watt 6-pin PCI-E cables then you should be able to use those adapter cables that you've linked to.

Will do. Thanks very much. Really appreciate your looking into it.

If you want something better looking than adapter cables you can get cables directly from Corsair:
