Hi,

I'm about to get one of the HXi series from Corsair and but don't have any more internal usb 2 headers available. Is it possible to just use a mini usb cable to a regular external usb 2 port?

Thank you for your time

you can actually get internal USB hubs like this from NZXT (https://goo.gl/ny1QW7) it has four USB 2 motherboard style headers and two USB Type A style connectors (USB A is the original rectangle USB connector that is on the back of motherboards and comes with your peripherals and phone cables etc... ) the only bad thing is that it it uses a molex connector for power or of you want RGB lighting control and fan/temperature monitoring and being able to control fan speeds on top of having 2 spare USB ports then...
