Okay so im looking to buy
Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX PC25600 16GB (2X8GB) - CMK16GX4M2B3200C16
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-lpx-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-dram-3200mhz-c16-memory-kit-black-cmk16gx4m2b3200c16
For my Ryzen 1700

But from what i've read here
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/61qxym/question_ram_sticks_with_samsung_bdie/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/60j8ut/corsair_memory_with_samsung_bdie/

Ryzen works better with samsung b-die chip than hynix chip and to know what chip i get is to check the RAM VERSION, if its 5.39 then it is Hynix, if its 4.31 then it is samsung b-die.

My question is HOW do you check the version? because i looked through photos of the memory box and not a single of them have a version listed.

If you know please help and if possible share the picture of where the version can be found
THANKS!

Sorry, forgot to mention that I didn't just read it from reddit, but from a lot of other sources. And well yes it does make a different because a lot of people having issue to go above 2667 or even 2133 RAM speed with hynix base chip and on the other hand samsung b-die chip can easily go to 3200 without any problem on RYZEN CPU.
Thanks for replying though!

Why do you need to OC your RAM?

Well, because Ryzen really likes the memory bandwidth. In most games, you can see up to a 20 fps difference when going from 2133-2667 to 3200

Also bump, because I would like to know too!

Bumping! As of now we all probably know that the Ryzen CPU speed/performace is directly linked to the memory bc of the "infinity fabric" working at memory speed.

Can we get someone from Samsung on here?? :D

Well. most Hynix chips work too now (Same for Samsung E/G die) so you don't need to find B-Die's. In addition AMD said that they will support all memories at the end of May.

One, I know you are trying to be helpful, but if you don't know, don't say stuff that does nothing to answer the question or invalidates the question, which is what that does. Two, wrong, this involves the memory working at it's rated speed and CAS, which requires overclocking the memory to do so, which means overclocking is NOT an option, but a requirement if you want the memory to run faster than 2133 Mhz which all performance memory starts at 2400 Mhz, which is overclocked.

And per AMD:

https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2017/03/14/tips-for-building-a-better-amd-ryzen-system

Memory Matters
AMD Ryzen™ processors have an appetite for faster system RAM, but it’s important to ensure that you have a solid setup before proceeding.

The AMD Ryzen™ processor does not offer memory dividers for DDR4-3000 or DDR4-3400. Users shooting for higher memory clocks should aim for 3200 or 3500 MT/s.
Memory vendors have also begun to validate 32GB (4x8GB) kits at 3200 MT/s rates for select motherboards.
Ensure that you are programming your BIOS with the recommended timings (CAS/tRCD/tRP/tRAS/tRC/CMD) and voltages specified on the DRAM packaging.

To ensure reliable POST, the AMD Ryzen™ processor may fall back to a DIMM’s JEDEC SPD “safe” timings in the event an overclock proves unreliable. Most DIMMs are programmed to boot at DDR4-2133 unless otherwise instructed by the BIOS, so be sure your desired overclock is in place before performance testing. Use CPU-Z in Windows to confirm.

For speed grades greater than DDR4-2667, please refer to a motherboard vendor’s memory QVL list. Each motherboard vendor tests specific speeds, modules, and capacities for their motherboards, and can help you find a memory pairing that works well. It is important you stick to this list for the best and most reliable results.1

We have internally observed good results from 2933, 3200, and 3500 MT/s rates with 16GB kits based on Samsung “B-die” memory chips. Potential kits include:

Geil EVO X - GEX416GB3200C16DC [16-16-16-36 @ 1.35v]
G.Skill Trident Z - F4-3200C16D-16GTZR [16-18-18-36 @ 1.35v]
Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 VERSION 5.39 [16-18-18-36 @ 1.35v]

What about samsung B sticks running CL 14?
Unfortunately I have a taste for MSI mobos... and the Gskill flare is not supported for most of the MSI AM4 boards...

Anyone know about g.skill ripjaws V series, 3200? Is that stuff samsung? Like the OP I do not understand how to tell either.

Dont listen to them it absolutely matters. I am one of the victims who bought the 3000 MHZ version that was listed and ended up being a Hyundai chip and its not breaking 2666 no matter what. I now will buy a 3200 mhz or other brand 100% as it actullay makes a huge speed GB/S difference.

I went ahead and bought some trident Z sticks.
They are CL 14 and at 3200.
All I had to do was enable XMP, and they hit their 3200 at CL 14 automatically! Thanks for the info!

I absolutely hate people who take the time to post an answer to your question, but instead of contributing an answer ask you why you think it's necessary to know the knowledge you are requesting. If you don't know the answer to the question being asked then move along, I don't get why people waste their time trying to convince people they don't need to know the answer to the question, and instead try to invalidate it, usually with misinformation. Even IF the OP is wasting their time asking the question, knowledge is never a bad thing, so please people, stop trying to convince people why they don't need to know something, if you know the answer contribute, if you don't, then move along.

And for the record the OP is correct, ram speed and Ram absolutely does matter with Ryzen and he was completely valid in trying to find out what kind of chip his ram contained, and if you don't understand why, then maybe you should do some research to expand your knowledge, because clearly the original person who responded to the OPs question knew less about the topic than the OP did and should have gracefully, shut the f*** up.

Thank You...

And thank you to prosp3ctus for contributing something incredibly valuable to this conversation. I just used your link and it helped me immensely. It's sad that I had to read through 5 posts of people explaining why the question was a good and valid question before getting to someone who actually contributed useful information, but sadly this is the age we live in, where people rather tell you why you are wrong for asking a question, then keep their ignorance to themselves. When did having a thirst for knowledge become something to be frowned upon and ridiculed for? Why are all these forums full of really good original questions followed by posts upon posts of people trying to convince the OP of why their question is somehow wrong. Even if the OP is misguided, give him the answer to his question and then explain how their misguided if you believe that to be the case, and if you don't know the answer move along. We shouldn't have to search through thousands of posts before getting to an answer, I really do hate ignorant people, they should be banned from owning a computer!

Why do you need to waste time and space asking stupid questions in a thread where someone ask a question when you don't have an answer and obviously have no idea why it matter either?

He want faster RAM because of the obvious 1) it's faster but most likely mostly because 2) it make the communication bus between among other things the two CCX (four core modules) in Ryzen run faster resulting in better performance.

To get 2133 MHz RAM rather than 3200 MHz would make his Ryzen system much slower.

It do matter as Ryzen will only do it with the Samsung B die chips and because faster RAM of course is faster but also because the infinity fabric bus will also run faster with faster RAM.

Faster = Faster.

Your faulty opinion that it doesn't matter that faster is faster is irrelevant. And the Hynix chips won't work as good as the Samsung B ones.
