I posted this on Corsair's forum as well but figured I'd relay it to here because I usually have better luck with you guys.

2 questions but first some backstory:

I bought a refurbished AX860i a year ago and after about a month I started having this annoying restart issue that I see a lot of other people complaining about. I RMA'ed the PSU just before the 1 year refurb warranty was up and I got a replacement about a month ago.

I'm having the same exact issue with this replacement unit and have tested a known working PSU with my system and have had no problems with it whatsoever for the 2 weeks it was in the PC.

So first off, I'm pretty convinced now that my system isn't the problem and I want to RMA again. I can't figure out if I'm actually able to do this since it's already been a year from the original purchase date. Or does the warranty get extended another year from the date I received the replacement? It doesn't really matter because I'm afraid of being stuck in an RMA loop with this particular unit based on what I've read...So that leads me into my second question...

Is it possible if I am able to RMA, would Corsair be willing to send me a different model refurb PSU of lesser value? Specifically any non "i" series PSU? I'd be happy with any 600w-700w refurb unit of theirs as long as it's 80+ gold or higher. Maybe a refurb from their RMx line but of lower wattage? As long as it's not an "i" series because frankly I find the Corsair Link software useless for a PSU. It adds nothing aside from being able to turn the fan to a default 40% because it wasn't kicking on under load with either unit I received. Anything would work so long as I don't have to resign myself to having purchased a "tier one" paperweight.

Thank you to ANYONE who read this long-winded post and responds with ANY information or experiences they've had. Thanks!

Never buy a refurbished PSU. You see, for it to be refurbished, it had to make its way back to the factory. Why did it get sent back to the factory? Maybe someone had used it until they no longer had a use for it and figured they recycle it properly... Maybe someone had a problem with it and sent it back? We don't know why it was sent back to factory to be refurbished, and that's why I don't recommend buying refurbished power supplies.

You do realize that 80+ Gold is an efficiency rating and has nothing to do with PSU quality, right? There are plenty of outstanding quality models that have a lower efficiency rating. There are also plenty of models that are fire hazards that have achieved the 80+ Gold rating.

I also have some things to say about the PSU Tier List. You see, those of us that understand power supplies are more comfortable with suggesting a unit based on a user's needs than referring the user to the tier list. You see, many sites actually view our tier list as a joke, and I can understand why. Just because a model makes it into Tier 1 doesn't mean it's perfect. Also, the fact that you bought a refurbished model means that it may not conform to its placement on the Tier List because that's built around new models, not refurbished models.

still not helping. you should find someone who's interested in getting a lesson in power supplies. if you're not here to answer the question then please go do something else.

You sure you understand basic English mate? Both AXi and AX are part of the "AX" line, "i" is not a line of Corsair PSUs, it just denotes Corsair Link functionality, much like "K" isn't a CPU series but "6th gen i3/i5/i7" is.

As I said OP, situations really vary with RMAs. Usually if it's handled through a store you can request store credit directly. If you handle it straight with Corsair they might let you choose from their webstore or something.

wow you people are hostile today huh. well i do understand this because i stated it in my OP.

"As long as it's not an "i" series because frankly I find the Corsair Link software useless for a PSU."

please excuse my misuse of "i" series and i apologize for your misunderstanding of what i'm referring to. i obviously know what it is so if you're just here to argue then please move on. i'm trying to ask a basic question
