I watched a video on YouTube a few days ago, some guy building a pc with the same case as me, corsair spec 01 and the 212 evo cooler. In his build with a M-ITX (or mini atx -whichever) motherboard, the cpu cooler would only fit so the fan was either facing up or down.

In my build the only difference will be ATX motherboard. My question is, assuming the cpu socket location is exactly the same no matter which type of motherboard used, I will have to have the CPU cooler blowing air up, but drawing heat from the GPU.

In my case i will have 2 front intake fans, and for exhaust, the top rear and 2 exhausts on top. Will this be enough airflow to ensure my cpu doesn't overheat due to temps from GPU?

Its an fx-6300 CPU, with plans to overclock in the future. And most likely an R9 270 GPU, which I known from a previous build reaches temps of 80c.

This is only my second build, and whilst I've learned alot, I don't yet know about cooling enough to make a judgement call in getting a smaller CPU cooler or stick with what I've got.

Incase people wonder, I cant try testing it out yet, I only have the case, cpu and HSF

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Stick with Hyper 212,it's damn good cooler. BTW, can you give me that YouTube video link? I want to see how did that guy manage to put an evo in spec 01.

That's a spec 01 OMG. buddy you can stick with your options since CPU position is hardly changed for ATX and micro ATX boards. But I suggest a Spec 02. Since I'm going to get that one for my AMD build.

No can do, my fiancee's parents bought me the case for Xmas. I wanted it, didn't realise there would be an issue with the 212, since my last case (CiT goblin mesh - £20) had space for the 212 and the spec 01 states its wider. I will be fitting it anyway, and decide what to do when I see temps. The only good thing is the motherboard I ordered has a huge heat sink under the CPU slot, so more space between the GPU (heat) and where ill have the HSF sucking air from. My next best option will be to grab a cheap water looped cooler. H50i or whatever. Possibly get the spec 02 but then I have a spare case which will result in me wanting to build another pc.. Much to my partners dislike lol

Oh!! That's an real issue :bounce:
Stick with your plan just go for any liquid cooler. I think you'll be fine :), but it'll be a little tighter inside the case.

For anyone who was interested in the final outcome. I purchased (my fiancee got me) a corsair H55 AIO cooler. I have to say I'm extremely impressed considering people saying things like get the more expensive ones (just like with Intel I guess ^_^) no doubt some of my temp sensors are incorrect but bios reads as low as 17c when cooler liquid and fan are running 100% (idle) and 20 when fans are set to auto. Haven't had chance to test with a game yet, because my gpu is still in a shop somewhere. But I have stress tested and cpu never goes over 31c.

So £44 for H55, looks way better than any HSF, and so neat and tidy etc. Plus great temps and extremely quiet, thanks to corsair PWM SP120 quiet edition (never tried stock fan)
