Question Corsair TX850w PSU for RTX 4090 Palit Gamerock

Hi everyone, I know there was a thread with the almost exact question (https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/corsair-tx850w-psu-enough-for-gtx-3080-3090.3646032/), but my question is a bit different and I'd like your help.
I have almost the same specifications as the OP:

i7 8700k slight OC to 4.8 Ghz
GTX 1070
ASUS TUF Z370-PLUS
16gb ddr4 corsair vengeance ram
2x Samsung SSDs (1 nvme, 1 SATA)
2x SATA HDDs (2Tb and 4TB)
Corsair TX850w PSU 80 plus bronze

As I've read through the older thread it's obvious my power supply needs an upgrade. BUT since I want the new Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200W which doesn't release until 1st of November where I live.

So my question is:
I'd like to buy the new Palit Gamerock OC 4090 RTX on release day.. Could I use my old power supply until my new one arrives? Is there any risk in using the old one for 2-3 weeks?

To answer your question as simple as possible, wait for the PSU to come in before you use the latter aforementioned GPU. FYI, the recommended PSU as stated by Palit is 1200W...you should be looking at something with more wattage to have headroom. The GPU can pull more power.

I checked the website (https://www.thermaltakeusa.com/toughpower-gf3-1200w-gold-tt-premium-edition.html) for the PSU I mentioned and it states "It can pipe up to 600W of power to PCIe 5.0 graphics cards. " but even the higher watt models state the same as you can see:

So would it make any difference anyway if I got the 1650W one?

Well, according to derBauer tests 4090 reacts very well to reducing the power limit - at least FE model. You can limit it to 300 W and lose only up to 10% performance. So if you do that I'm pretty sure your old PSU can survive few weeks.

Hey there,

While the TXM is a pretty good PSU, it's not the best for higher end RTX cards with their high transient power spikes. This will most certainly be true for the 4090 too, as it's already been reported. Whilst you might 'get by', you may also have a system that restarts quite often. This can lead to OS corruption. Now, the PSU will only trip it's protections, switch off and should not be harmed at all. You may find some games loads don't trip it at all. So, getting by is possible with some smart use.

Taking off the OC on the CPU might help.
