Corsair VS 650 good for zotac gtx 970 amp extreme core edition

I planning to purchase zotac gtx 970 amp extreme core edition and i am using corsair CX 550. I am planning to upgrade to Corsair VS 650.

Zotac, and every other manufacturer, is going to tell you that a unit which is probably much more than what's needed is required, just to be sure they cover their end and would rather give you an overkill recommendation than have you get a unit that's the exact amount needed but that with a cheap unit that doesn't meet spec, won't be enough. You'll be fine with the unit you have. Here's the RealHardtechX recommendations based on their testing. Their recommendations are always already beyond what's actually needed, for the same reason, so there's no need for a bigger unit unless you want one.

Plus, that VX is probably more capable of providing it's labeled power output than that VS unit is anyhow. Like I said, if you DO want a bigger...

This would be a far better choice, even though it's only 20w over the recommended PSU capacity for the GTX 970. In reality, your CX550w unit has plenty of capacity for that card, it just isn't the most reliable over the long run either due to inferior capacitor selection. But it will work, and buy you some time to save a little more money for a Seasonic, Super Flower, Antec, XFX or EVGA unit listed at a position of Tier 1 or 2 here:

Thank you for the info.The PSU is almost 5 years old and the graphic card I am purchasing is a OC Version and fastest in the GTX 970 line up. So I was little worried

Thank you man. Sorry for bothering you with so many questions. I just contacted Zotac and they said i needed a 600 watt PSU. So is it okay if i go with my 550 wattts PSU? From this review it shows under load it consumes 300 W(http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7143/zotac-geforce-gtx-970-amp-extreme-core-edition-video-card-review/index12.html)
