Hello, i am getting ready to place my order with newegg for my first build. I am trying to find combo deals on most everything and have found some combo deals with the hard drive i want. My build is going to be this,
-AMD Athlon II x3 435 Rana (plan to unlock 4th core and overclock)
-MSI 785G-E51 motherboard
-4 gb GSKill ddr3 1600 RAM
-Seagate Barracuda 500gb hard drive 7200rpm
-LG 22x DVD burner
-Either a radeon 5770 or a 4870-4890

My question is about the PSU. Would a 450w PSU be enough to power the system? I am not planning on SLI or Crossfire on this mobo. Its basically just everything listed above. Here are the ones i am thinking of. I do not want to go over $120 for both the PSU and hard drive (would prefer a lower cost but don't mind paying up to $120 without rebates for a better PSU).

The OCZ StealthXStream 600w and HDD. This PSU seems to have alot of bad reviews about DOA's and failing after a short period of time. Also it only puts out 18A on the 12v rail.

Or the Corsair 450W and HDD. This PSU is 150W less, but puts out 33A on the 12V rail.

Would the Corsair PSU power my system? I would rather go with that psu seeing the reviews on the OCZ. Or if there is any other deals under $120 for a 500gb 7200rpm at least 16mb cache, and a psu i would really appreciate it :D Also the $120 is before any rebates.

Here is the official ATI recommended power supply requirement for one ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card:

450 watt or greater power supply with one 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended.

Here is the official ATI recommended power supply requirement for one ATI Radeon HD 4890 video card:

500 watt or greater power supply with two, 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors.

Both recommendations are for an entire pc system.

The Corsair VX450 power supply could power a system with one Radeon DH 5770 video card. The Corsair VX550 could power a system with one Radeon HD 4890 video card.

The VX550 is available at newegg.com for $79.99. That's $20.00 more than the VX450. The VX550 also has hard drive combo deals for $130.00 or less:

The general rule of thumb is a high quality 500 to 550 watt power supply with sufficient current (amps) on the +12 volt rail(s) can easily power a system with any single video card made. A high quality 500 to 550 watt psu will have a +12 volt rail rated at 40 amps. There are a few exceptions like the new ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card which uses less power due to its energy efficiency.

Corsair a brand that has a reputation for high quality power supplies that consistently earn high marks in technical reviews. They are reliable, stable, and can deliver their rated power.
