Do you think Core i7 6700 on H170 will be a better buy than Core i5 6600K on a Z170? Building the i5 6600K on Z170 will cost more than core i7 6700 on h170. Plus cost for cpu fan/cooler for i5 k.

The cpu will be used for functionality, gaming and productivity.

I think the cost will be higher for building the core i5 6600K due to more expensive z170 not including the cpu fan/cooler. Wattage and heat is also higher possibly stressing out the i5 6600k cpu faster. Speed will be nearly the same. But with a lower cost I get more features on the i7 due to hyperthreading, and the cpu runs on base clock with no worries of stressing out the system too much.

The cost is higher for building i5 6600K on z170 than i7 6600 on h170, is it not?

Yup, I'm thinkin about the ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming vs the ASUS H170 Pro Gaming which have the same features except for overclocking. Still haven't decided on which system to build.. Thank you TechNeeeQ for the reply. Btw, memory cost is also something to consider, adding up to total cost of building i5 k system.

functionality? lol all computers function. Maybe you mean basic internet browsing and basic functions?
But, I am building a pc also and was also looking at the Asus z170 or the Asus H170. I havent determined much difference yet. I guess either one will do. Core I7 6600 build with SSD drives. I will be watching this page and let you know if we decide and find the differences. It will be running four or five minitors for ham radio software defined radio after all graphics and assembly.
