Could I Use This PSU?

I want to use this psu but my current one doesn't have a power switch and is top mounted, so i'm wondering could this be a problem. This is the Psu I want https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N9X3F8F/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

However if I can't use that one i'm almost 100% sure I can use this one

I also currently use the lenovo h50-55 with a small ram upgrade which shouldn't effect this

you can use almost every power supply, as long you know what needs to be powered. that means you need to look what your current power supply is powering and if the new power supply has the right plugs for that. you really dont want to find out afterwards that you psu is not powerfull enough to provide your pc electricty as example

also to mentions, dont go to aggresive on the power supply. in the meaning, dont buy an very big power supply for your pc, when it doesn't need that extra power. it only will slow you pc down and cost much more

Both psu's are really low qauality and should not be used.
Also that lenovo you have has proprietary connectors so you can't upgrade the psu anyways.

Look up the system. The board has a 12pin instead of a 24 pin connector.

Nothing wrong with learning, I always fully support that, but in such case it is always in the best interest of everyone to refrain from giving answers in the first place until you gather some experience. That's how most of us did back in the days.

Proprietary connectors are custom made ones, and are only used in some branded-name computers. Yes, Lenovo does use them. IBM also likes to use them. You have to use a PSU which is either compatible with this motherboard (usually ordered directly from the manufacturer, and usually limited in power) or use various adapters for regular PSUs for this specific model.

Take a look at page 35 of manual for this mobo:

See anything strange? Yeah, no 24-pin power connector. It is 14 pin.

You will need an adapter like this to make it work:

so that means, the psu cannot be upgraded or used by an psu that has 24 pin instead of an 14 pin, got it

No problem. Learning is a liftetime process, and life tends to remind me of this fact quite often 😉

And as noted above, you actually CAN use a regular PSU with 24pin power connector, but will have to use an adapter to 14pin.

For some learning as well,there's no truth in that a bigger psu would slow down you pc.

hey vick, sorry for the missunderstanding 😉

i meant that the pc efficiency would be lower than if you bought an psu that requires the right amount of power + 100 above.

DON"T CHEAP OUT ON YOUR PSU! the risk of malfuctioning the psu and all other parts that are connected to the psu will massivly increase.

I have heard this before, everybody has, however this power supplies seem to be what i want, they also have some decent reviews so i'm gonna trust them. If something goes then it goes wrong
