could my cpu be damaged?

i bought a new cpu cooler for my i7 4790k. it wouldnt screw on properly becaused i bought it used and must had been damaged by original owner or from shipping. when i tried to apply pressure i did it pretty hard because i was frustrated and using too much of my thermal paste. i feel like it would have damaged the components inside. i also was trying to unscrew a screw on my motherboard attached to the cpu cooler. i twisted it pretty hard on my motherboard and i felt like i bent my mobo a bit. my pc turns on perfectly but i feel like this might have done something bad. if my cpu or motherboard was slightly damaged would my pc turn on at all? or would it just be dead?
