Ok guys, so this is my psu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256059
I have a silverstone tj09 case which has the psu is at the bottom of the case. this allows me to have the psu facing either downwards, sucking in cold air from outside the case or facing upwards sucking in hot air from the gfx cards.
the first psu i had facing downwards till i noticed the fan was rattling. it was so loud i could hear it from sitting in my chair.
so i flipped the psu facing upwards, brought the noise down since the fan was inside the case but i could still hear it a bit while idling and light gaming.
i rmaed the faulty psu and eventually got a BRAND new psu.
I assumed the problem was just the fan, so i tested the new psu and there was no rattling.
so again i had the psu facing downwards, after weeks i would put my ear close to the psu and listen for the rattling. it was starting to do it again but not nearly as bad as before.
to test if the fan is really rattling i took it out, did this as well with the old psu, and spun the fan with my finger. i could hear the rattling.
currently i have the psu facing upwards and i can hear the rattling if i take the side door off and put my ear close to the psu, i can also hear it if i really listen to it while the pc is idle.
so recently i called silverstone trying to get an advanced rma, which they declined, and they told me "having the psu facing downward puts more pressure on the bearings causing the damage."
Are there any tj09 owners who can say if they experienced this?
Do you guys think this is just bad fans or the placement of the psu that cause the bad fans?
i want to know if i should even bother going through the rma process again, since i dont have spare psu for the long rma process, or just wait tell the fan gets so annoying i have to buy a new psu.
