So I was wondering if you could make your own laptop case. The shell on the outside that holds everything in one piece, just to clarify. Im getting a bit bored of this latop casing and was wondering if I could make my own, better looking one maybe cramp everything a bit closer and get a better fan to go with it, and make everything look nice on the inside and on the outside. (maybe even get a new motherboard and cpu)

Sooooo.... My general thoughts on this would be to make my laptop thinner and nicer, BUT, I wouldnt mind adding a video card while making it a bit thicker (like alienware)

So what Im asking is if you guys can tell me if its realistic. Ive got a long summer so i have the time, and I definitely have the creativity for it. I might even put in a glowing keyboard and logo. Also, if you could give me a price range for all of this combined and if you have any suggestions at all I would be glad to hear them.

Thanks, in advance 😀

Google vacuums forming and 3d priinting. Most laptop google plastic laptop shell molding for compies that do or make shells for laptops.
For your mb in the laptop you have to check that it can take a video card.
If not you have to buy a system board from a pre made laptop vendor or have one fab. There are company that do fab work for you.
A total custom laptop might run you 3000 depending how crazy you went.
It be cheaper to use a stock system board that uses haswell CPU and a gaming gpu.

yeah, i thought about doing this a few years backs, i've taken apart 100's over the years and always thought the basic design was pretty simple and really wanted to make a wooden one.
However, its much more complex than you might think, especially if your just trying to make it in you living room, the bottom plastic is molded in the factory so everything fits great, but doing this yourself would take an awful lot of time effort.
As for making it smaller, to be honest, i don't know how old/thick your laptop is but it's unlikey, remember laptop's rarely have just a motherboard but also at least one daughterboard and everything's pretty tightly packed.
it was the little details that got me, like once the screen was attached to the new lid, how would i attach the front bezel in a way where it looked neat, using wood i could have shaved it at an angle and used glue. but if there was a problem:fou:
So, i don't wanna stifle creativity, but just think this is one hell of a tough project, after saying all that i still say GO FOR IT :)
Maybe my mistake was trying to copy the laptop design and what was really needed was some thinking outside the box. if your creative and innovative then give it a try because i kow for a fact that it can be done with patience an time.
if you ever finish it be sure to post some pics, Good Luck
