For #1 - Does it matter what end goes to the PSU and what end goes to the GPU?

#2 - I have an RX580 that has an 8pin + 6pin powering slots. I have read that the 6pin is optional to power the GPU, but if i wanted to, could i use this?

PSU - Evga 1000w titanium
Thanks!

Solution
Assuming you have a p2 or t2 psu you should have a mass of vga cable's with it.

It comes with

4 x 8 pin to single 6+2 cables
2 x 8 pin to twin 6+2/6 pin cables

You can use either 2 of the single cables or 1 of the twin cables

You must populate both power slots on the card for it to run.

It'll only fit one way. The pins are keyed, some are square some have chopped corners. Prevents you from plugging it in backwards. As is dontlistentome is correct in VGA labels go to the card, the other end plugs into the psu. While normal ratings say an 8pin is 150w and a 6pin is 75w, psu connectors are not limited to that, but carry a max load of 7A per hot pin. With 4 hots and 4 grounds, that's a total of @336w capable by the psu connector plus the upto 90w from the pcie slot for a total of 426w, easily covering the Rx580's power consumption.

So, all i need is that one cable (#2 in OP) to do so?
