Hi Everyone,
First off, when it comes to overclocking I am a novice, and honestly I'm not into it. I just like to ruin things stock and stable. Figured I would preface my questions with that statement.
Long story short, I bought an i7 4970k and a Asus Maximus VII Formula. Reason I got the asus board was a friend of mine got me a massive discount on it. So it was dirt cheap.
I was going to try a h80i GT cooler, but when I mounted it the backplate wasn't making solid contact with the motherboard. Stressing the processor (with that cooler) seemed to be ok, temps seemed ok, but I instead went with the Noctua UH 14s.
When I set up the Noctua, I ran OCCT again, I got a message that stated over max value reached. Or something similar. My temps were hitting over 70, etc.
Then I learned that it appears by default, the Asus board is overclocking things. So I turned off Multicore enhancement, I disabled fully manual mode. I also set sync all cores to auto. IS there anything I might of missed to just make sure things are running stock and not OC'd? I might OC in the future, but right now just want to make sure things are stock and stable.
Also, with the water cooler, and then the air cooler, and the voltages and such. If things are running, I assume I didn't do any damage to my CPU correct?
Sorry for the huge rambling post, just want to make sure things are ok.
