So I have a couple old PCs lying around and looking for some ideas / opinions on what to do with them. Neither is a Powerhouse by any means but thinking they could serve some purpose

  1. PC with an A8-3850 Processor, 8 GB RAM, one PCI-E x16 slot available (SFF)
  2. OptiPlex 9020 SFF with 8 or 16 GB RAM and an i5-4590 Processor. PCI-E x16 slots (x2)

Trying to find a use for them as I dont need a gaming machine, I dont need retro gaming machines, I dont need an emulator machine as i have all those setup already.

Any ideas / suggestions?

Thanks!

Solution
the A8 could make a decent Home Theater PC, hooked up to your TV to show Netflix and other streaming services, movies (probly stored elsewhere in house), and some very light gaming (for things like Kongregate and Facebook, and 2D Indie games).

the Optiplex could be a decent 'play with it' Linux box. the on-board GPU is weaker than the A8's onboard GPU, or it too could be a decent HTPC. the 4590 though, would be faster at encoding video.

Donate them. With the need for remote learning and work there are lots of people that need low end tech at home. There are organizations that are refurbing hardware specifically for remote learning.
