Question cpu 100% usage

So idk if I have cpu bottleneck or my ram is the problem. Before you read this is my goal and my current set up

I5 6500 3.20
1060 3gb oc edition
8 gb ram
H110 msi gaming

My goal is 140 FPS 1080p I don’t mind if it’s low settings without screen tearing or stutters

Games I currently play
Apex Levends
Csgo

On apex, I get 90 - 144 low settings but I’m getting FPS drops, screen tearing and stutters

My gpu usage is at 90-98 while playing

Cpu is 100% the whole time while playing

Gpu temp goes 72c
Cpu temp goes 65-68c

If the CPU is getting to 100% and the GPU is not, the CPU is the bottleneck... but it seems there is some other problem. You should be able to run better than that on low settings, does anything use your CPU or GPU in the background?

You have a nice, fairly balanced system but it isn't "bred" to be a 140 fps machine. You should be OK in CS:GO but in Apex you'll need more "horsepower" for 140 fps (I'm assuming at 1080 resolution)

To achieve 140 fps in "most games":

1: You'll need to upgrade your motherboard and CPU to either:
a: An AMD Ryzen system (a Ryzen 2600 or higher)
b: An Intel i5 (6 core versions) or higher (something like an i5 8600k)

2: You'll need a dual channel RAM kit of 16 gb (2 sticks or 8 each). 8 gb nowadays is the minimum to run games. (CS:GO being the exception)

3: The 1060 3gb has enough power but it severely lacks vram (it only has 3 gb). I just replaced my 1060 3gb in my HTPC because of this very reason. (I do play some racing games on it in the living room)

No I only have steam and discord if I play csgo

For apex I only have origin discord

This is what I get for apex on low settings native resolution

Minimum - 90
Max- 144

The FPS is there but it just feels stuttery and it’s tearing. Sometimes when there’s a lot going on my screen, ( smoke, Bangalore ult etc ) it drops to 90 but it feels liek it’s 30-45.

I was considering in upgrading my cpu + mobo to ryzen , but I wanted to wait for 3rd gen. And gpu did u upgrade to ?

Unrealistic, with most games out in the last 4 years....

(i5's are most likely to be 100% busy playing any game these days, that in itself does not mean much...)

TIme to jump to at least 6 cores...

Both the R5-2600/B450 board or i7-9700/Z390 combos are quite popular these days...

I was going to get the 6gb version of the 1060 but the 1660 head just came out and I grabbed one for $219. I didn't need anything hot or loud for a home theater PC not to mention I plan on giving the 1060 3gb to a family member who does light gaming

Did u get the TI Version or just 1660 ? And how is it treating u so far ? If you could share ur specs and like performance on the games you play I would appreciate it !

I bought the regular 1660. It's more than enough for a home theater PC that I race games on @1080 x 60fps on a 60in TV.

My system is overkill for a regular home theater PC but I'm finding myself using it for games more and more that don't require me to sit in front of a monitor like a first-person shooter does.

It's an i7 3770k, 16gb ddr3 1600, GTX 1660, 8 TB of storage. The games I use it for our the Forza Horizon games, project cars 2, and probably MotoGP 19 when it comes out. So far I can run at high or ultra settings and keep it locked at 60fps

1080P 144 Hz gaming is a challenge for many CPUs and GPUs, especially with modern games. THrow in streaming and this would be a challenge for even SMT/HT capable quad core, much less one that is 4 core/4 thread....


Throw in a GPU not really capable of 144 FPS except for quite old games, and, i'd expect your results (with current rig) to be somewhat 'stuttery'/jittery, and with lots of dropped frames...

(I'll defer to the everyday streamers if they disagree, however)
