CPU 12v power connector/Mobo having 2 12v connector

I have a Corsair CX 750m ATX and the CPU Connector is an 8-Pin connector but you can split it into two 4-pin connectors. I looked at my MSI Z97 MPOWER Max and it also had a 4-pin connector for psu and an 8-pin connector. The PSU 8-pin which splits has different moulds to the 8-pin connector on the Mobo. If I split the PSU 8-pin connector it fits fine into the 4-pin on the mother board. When it is 8-pin, it fits, but it is not the right shape. What should I do?

Try to reorient the two parts. Mine also two 4 pins for mobo power. It took 15 min to make it insert into motherboard 8 bin socket.

^ Don't do that. Its possible to insert the wrong cable if you do it backwards and fry stuff.

What cables you want to use are the 4+4pin, its also called an 8 pin but 4+4 refers to it being able to be split into two 4 pin connectors. There is also a 6+2 pin, do not use this if you put it in backwards it will fry your board and almost positively your psu aswell.

Here is a picture of the connectors I am talking about use the red one, not the blue one

If you like you can upload a picture of the connectors and we can tell you which one exactly.

Edit: Oh wait, I think I misinterpreted your first post. If you were asking about the lack of a 4+4pin + an additional 4 pin for the mobo then its fine. The extra 4 pin is for extremely high end overclocking. (talking cooled by liquid nitrogen here) Its not needed, only the 8 pin is needed.

Thanks! I have the red connector. So is it okay for me to slot it in although it has a different mould to the one on the motherboard? If so thanks 😀. I also have another problem. I have a PCI-E cable that splits 3 ways. What should I do?

Finally I have two 3 pin fan connectors, but on the mobo, it has 4 pin sockets. What to do there?

The clips should line up with the clip parts on the motherboard and it should go in fairly easily. If you have to force it its almost certainly the wrong cable.

3 pin fans work fine in 4 pin sockets, it will just control the fan via voltage instead of PWM.

If you have a video card that needs the PCI-E connectors, thats what its used for.

Thanks mate! This is my first try at making my own PC as the one I use now is showing its ware. I plug one PCI Cable into the motherboard and the rest for the actual Graphics card. Thanks anyway, you have been a great help!
