So i want to OC past 4.5GHz on my MSI Board But when i put the v core voltage passed 1.300 the numbers turn red does this mean that my board cant handle the voltage or is it just a warning. This is my first attempt at OCing

Most people will agree that 1.30 volts is as high as you want to go for everyday use. If you have high end cooling you may be able to handle more voltage than 1.30 but most people still won't recommend it.

Just a FYI, with my Gigabyte Z97X UD5H it set the vcore to 1.40 when I left the vcore on auto and set the multiplier to 45!

I can't seem to overclock my 4790k at all. It runs stable with all cores boosting to 4.4 with the vcore as low as 1.1. If I try to raise it above 4.4 it hard resets while running IBT no matter what voltage I try. Hopefully you have more luck than me.

Oh ok, My cooler is a swiftech H220 if it helps here are my system specs

Case: Corsair 750D
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
GPU: EVGA GTX 780ti Super Clocked w/ACX
RAM: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2x4GB) 1866Mhz
SSD:Kingston 120GB
HDD: Seagate 1TB
HDD: Seagate 500GB
Liquid Cooling :Swiftech H220
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit
PSU: CoolerMaster V1000 1000W

will i need faster RAM if i want to OC. Iv seen some people on youtube that have just stupidly high RAM speeds like 3300Mhz is this really nessesary to hit 4.5/4.6Ghz or will 1866Mhz be ok?

Srry is im asking to many questions i just want to be sure im doing everything correctly.

also whats a safe temp while runing Prime95 Blend test.
was told to run a blend test because some peoples cpu's would be fine on the other settings but then they ran a blend test it would BSOD.

So far its been 10 mins and the highest iv seen the cpu temp is 87C

I have heard 90C is the highest you want to go. That is not from a valid source (I do not think a valid source would ever tell you what the max temperature is).

Currently at 1.220V and stable at 4.5Ghz the hottest one of my cores got was ~66c
