to i was previously set on getting a closed loop cooler since they bring the temperature down much quicker than an air cooler and the heat is exhausted right out of the case, but since I've changed by system build around a bit i won't be doing to much over clocking. so whats a good air cooler to get? i need good cooling and nothing crazy loud, but other than that i don't really care what it is.

If you want a silent, and very high quality air cooler. Just go with Noctua. They make the best air coolers out there and their performance can even compete with best AIO cooling loops. The Noctua NH-D15, A big beefy dual 140mm fan twin towered heatsink cooler. Due to its big 140mm fans it can spin at lower RPM making it whisper quiet. Just see it for yourself below :)

Yeah what Profoundnoah said. At $80 you are in high-end Noctua NH-series territory. While not as visually appealing, high end Noctua coolers (like my older NH-D14) are more efficient and cool better. But it depends on what is more important to you: a better looking cooler seen through a side window or running about 3-4C cooler at load.

All of that of course can be thrown out the window if you are not going to be enthusiast-level overclocking however and you can get by with a cooler half or more that price like the 212 Evo.
