My CPU seems to recently running at a solid 100% in Task Manager even when nothing is running. All other statics look fine - memory running at 20%. Its not against any specific process the CPU loading it just seems to be the latest used. My specification is as follows:

- Intel Core i7-13700K
- MSI PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI
- Microsoft Windows 11 Home (x64) Build 26100.3775 (24H2)

I've tried the following:
- installed latest BIOS
- checked windows updates
- checked drivers
- disabled all start up programmes
- run two different virus checkers for malware
- checked system files with sfc /scannow command
- defragged HD and run chk dsk
- tried switching off print spooling
- switched powerplan to balanced
- switched off tips and suggested ways in notifications
- cleaned fans

HWInfo shows total CPU usage as 100% and average core temperature as 66degrees when idle with no thermal throttling.

At a complete loss what to do next, any help appreciated?

Did your OS come directly from Microsoft download?
Sounds like a crypto miner malware to me ...

What process in task manager is loadind the CPU? If task manager says 100% of the CPU is used it certainly lists which processes are causing this. Just click on the top of the CPU column and it will sort them in order of most usage to less, then just right click on the one that comes on top of the list to find out what it is and from which folder it's running.

Thanks for replying - it varies. It just seems to be the latest one or a collection of them that causes it.

terminate cc_engine_x64.exe and see if the cpu load drops.

guess you could pause suspected services and see if your cpu load drops.
Thanks for reply, terminated and CPU load remains at 100%. It seems like it remains at 100% whatever and just spreads the percentage across any live processes!

I was just guessing that the msi control software was the problem.

I would next download and run microsoft process explorer.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

many processes can be rolled up into one service, this tool lets gives a much better look at what is going on.
I would be looking at the 3rd party processes first.
