CPU and DRAM led flashing, system wont POST

whenever i turn the computer on the CPU and DRAM led's turn on for a second, aswell as all of the fans. but then everything turns off and then the system just endlessly repeats this.
this is my first build so i may be missing something really obvious.
however im pretty sure the processor is seated well onto the pins.
The 8-pin CPU power cable is connected
im also pretty sure it is an issue with the CPU aswell, as when i remove the processor power everything else then boots (obviously not the CPU)

ASUS P8P767-PRO Motherboard

When you installed the CPU did you put thermal paste on the top of the CPU and then install the CPU cooler and plug that into the CPU fan cooler plug on the MOBO?

yep, i have done all that and still no luck

THe PC wont boot without the CPU. You might have the mobo not sitting correctly on the standoffs which would cause the PC to act like yours. Double check your board is sitting correctly
