Hi everyone,

I recently built my first CPU - my parts list can be found here http://pcpartpicker.com/list/QMywhq

I only play WoW at the moment and my machine runs between 40-120fps depending on where I am. The lower end usually is in areas with a lot of people like Ashran.

Is this range that I'm getting just what my CPU is producing? or is it another variable? I'm pretty new at what hardware produces certain results so forgive me if this is a dumb question.

I did quite a bit of research on this build and I'm extremely happy with it - I'd just like to get some insight on getting higher fps consistencies out of it.

Thanks a lot!

Looks like around 28% on CPU and 56% on memory.

I think its around 45% to 50% while in game. Not 100% on the accuracy. Had to find a GPU monitor and used nvidias and it's pretty garbage.

High pop areas will always drop your fps, in WoW. Ashran, world boss kazzak, and even Ordos, during MoP, dropped my fps quite a bit. It's better now, with my 780ti, but my 770 would hit fps in the teens on world bosses. You 960 isn't far off performance wise, to my old 770, iirc.

As has been mentioned, this is most likely a CPU issue. The CPU usage you are looking it is a combined total of all the cores, but it only takes 1 core to hit its max for everything to slow down. Unlike GPU's, adding cores does not just split the work between your new cores. CPU's primarily handle things that are very linear, and are not easily split into multiple parts to be run on multiple cores. As a result, the core that handles all the draw calls is usually maxed out during those slow downs, while the rest of the cores remain lightly used. Look at your GPU usage during those low FPS moments. You should find the GPU usage is lower during those times.

I think I understand.. so basically if I could overclock my i3 I would be golden.. too bad I don't have the mobo for it. Thanks for the insight!
