laptops tend to run hot, they don't have much room for cooling. You can make sure the dust is blown out of the vents regularly, that you have the laptop positioned such that the intake and outlet vents are not obstructed, and that there is sufficient airflow. I found that in a recent Lenovo laptop I purchased, as well as on a Toshiba, the intake vents were on the bottom. If you were to put the laptop flat on a table, they are obstructed. I found that by putting a little something under the laptop to raise it a small distance from the table surface, temps dropped significantly.
Laptop coolers should be great for this as well.
