Hi guys,
I have a problem with my system, when i play, let's say GTA V (recommended settings with nvidia geforce experience, the same goes for other games), i see sudden frame drops from 60 to 30 and sometimes it stucks at 30FPS for a very long time (v sync is enabled).
I don't know if it is a bottleneck problem because the witcher 3 runs at all ultra settings at 60 fps.
I've also noticed that sometimes when i play, or just simply watch a video on youtube, it seems that the system freezes for a fraction of a second and i notice it by the audio, it is like some kind of interference (on full load, my gpu max temps are averaging at 85 °C, while for the CPU i've registered the highest temps of 81 °C on Battlefield V,).
My system specs are:
MOBO: msi x470 gaming pro
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x
GPU: gtx 970 (zotac 3gb, yes i know it is old and it probably causes the bottleneck, im waiting to see GPU prices drop to change it, it is actually from an old build and i belive that zotac discontinued it some time ago)
RAM: 16 gb DDR4 3000MHz (2x8gb)
storage: 1 x m2 250gb (the OS is installed on it, it uses the faster m2 slot), 1 x m2 500gb, 1 x ssd evo 850 evo)
psu: evga 750 p2 80 plus platinum (fully modular with very high efficiency)

I also use the game boost feature of my mobo, and the A-XMP mode for better RAM usage.
I've almost forgot to mention that i play at 1080p if that is relevant.

You can look into memory, and make sure that all 16 GB is showing up and at the correct frequency. You can also run memtest86 to see if there are any errors.

On the motherboard you can update the chipset drivers and BIOS. That should ensure that it is running in optimum form. You can down load those here.

Ryzen systems are very picky about RAM. Was the memory on the motherboard QVL list ? That in of itself eliminates a lot of headaches.

On the drive, you can run a diagnostic to see if there are any problems there.

I would say theres little doubt the gtx 970 is the culprit...all you can do to reduce the frame drops is turn settings down in game. GTA V optimization issues are well known but there's no way around the fact that the 970 is an out dated card.

The 2700x is in no way shape or form a bottle neck....the 16 gig of memory, the m.2 drive, and the power supply should all be doing a fine job keeping the 2700x fed with data.

On the graphics card, you can update the driver at http://www.geforce.com/drivers. Download and install the driver using the custom install with the clean install option. Alternatively you can run DDU for a clean install without any driver remnants.

I don't know if you are streaming or not but you can look also update the LAN drivers. And then evaluate the router for drivers or settings update.

You can evaluate the system %CPU & %Memory usage by opening Task Manager. And you can also cleanup the applications running constantly in the background by going to the Startup tab. Select those applications with medium or high impact on startup and use the disable button at the bottom. Then do the same for any applications that you don't use every few days.

And lastly, you can try an reset of windows if necessary.
