Hi, recently I've purchased a new CPU which is the AMD FX 9370. I've been going through some threads on the website reading how the CPU isn't compatible with my mother board (Which is the ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus) and to my understanding the CPU (Bear with me, I'm not that tech savvy) has a TDP wattage of 220w. This could be an issue because this motherboard can only support cpu's with a wattage of 125w. Because of this issue, this could shorten the lifespan of the motherboard, right? But my main concern/question is. Will this affect other parts of my PC? I'm talking stuff like the PSU, GPU, RAM, and other PC components.

Thanks you to who ever is reading this, I just want to know so I don't break anything on my current PC.

The answer is not simple like a 'yes' or 'no'. You should notice that your motherboard is responsible to energize the other components. So, if for some reason you are unlucky and something goes bad with your motherboard, it has a risk to affect the other components.

from what I have read, that CPU will burn out the socket on the motherboard, so the board will be dead, quite possibly taking the CPU with it, the short theoretically could actually cause a fire in the case, either look at the 8320 or the 8350, or replace the board with something a lot more powerful

The ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus doesn't support the 9370 :

The TDP rating on the motherboard won't be able to handle the 9370's massive 220W.
You are going to need a new motherboard to support the chip and It probably won't even boot on your current one.

Thank you guys for the quick replies! I needed the responses tonight for picking out a new motherboard and making sure it was necessary for a new one. Another question, will this board be compatible as well? I've been looking at this one for a bit and it seems to be a cheaper alternative compared to the Asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0 (Here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514 )

nope, I'm afraid to say that that board has the same limit as the other one you mentioned, if you do a google search of a board you can find the CPU support list, or just as that to you search and you can normally find the page that way too

I checked a cpu processor support website for the gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3. The website shows that the motherboard is compatible with the cpu http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-990FXA-UD3%28rev._4.0%29.html It'll take some scrolling down to see it

you are right, however that is not the same as the list I got :/ I apologise, ya that one works fine then
