Ok, so I plan on buying the:

Intel Core i5 4690

And the motherboard I have is the:

Gigabyte LGA 1150 Intel H81 USB3.0 SATA 6G/S D-Sub HDMI mATX Motherboard GA-H81M-S2PH

According to a recommended website:

http://pcpartpicker.com/

my motherboard might need a BIOS update before installing a Haswell Refresh CPU. Firstly, the i5 4690 really going to cause issues like that to my motherboard? Also, will my motherboard need a BIOS update, or does it really matter? Lastly, if in case I do need to update my motherboard, how do I do the update, or does it do it automatically when I first boot up the computer? Can someone please help?

Solution
You don't need the BIOS update to use the i5 4690, and you don't have the newer BIOS yet because it has the only BIOS version F5 for the GA-H81M-S2PH (rev. 1.0) or FA for GA-H81M-S2PH (rev. 2.0). And for other MB you do need the BIOS update first, then you can use the newer i5 4690 otherwise the PC will not boot.

GA-H81M-S2PH (rev. 1.0) http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4666
GA-H81M-S2PH (rev. 2.0) http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=5017
