Hello,
I'm thinking of upgrading my PC to improve performance. I'm thinking I should upgrade my motherboard and CPU. Could I get your opinions and advice on what to upgrade and which components to buy? I've also been thinking of buying the i7 4790k CPU, what are your thoughts? I'm not planning on upgrading my GPU anytime soon.

Current PC Specs:
NZXT Phantom 410 Gunmetal
Gigabyte GTX 660 Windforce OC
Intel core i5 3470 3.2GHz
1x Kingston DDR3 8GB Ram
Asus P8B75-M LX

Asus vg248qe 144hz 1ms RT (monitor)
Func ms3 rev2 (mouse)
Razer Deathstalker (Keyboard)
Razer Krakens 7.1 (Headset)

What sorta programs you running? if you are rendering and doing photoshop work with masses of layers etc you will most likely need the i7 hyperthreading.

I would suggest getting a haswell refresh i5 4690K if you are not doing any of the things listed above. Not many games support more than 4 cores really (Not too well optimised)

Yeah, I see what you mean, Karl. I would mostly be running fps games such as Battlefield 4, ACU, Farcry 4, Dragon Age: inquisition, etc and perhaps a bit of Cinema 4D (animation program). I'm not buying a new monitor after I bought my Asus 144hz 1ms rt monitor yesterday hehe. Hmm, or should I be upgrading my GPU instead?

If you can, upgrade your gpu to a 970 if you were going to get a gpu upgrade

so in conclusion, no need for more processor power, GPU gtx970 is what you want.

Another memory module of 8GB should be considered too, because of dual channel.

What power supply do you use exactly?

little advise:
before upgrading, flash your BIOS to the current version. Use the BIOS to do that, not Windows!
