I am looking to upgrade my CPU as it seems to be the last thing throttling my performance while gaming/multi tasking on my computer.

I have currently an Asus H110M-A motherboard with 16g ram DDR4, and a GTX 1060 6g video card. 500pws. And a Intel i5-6400.

Because I am limited with the old motherboard I cannot upgrade much without changing it out. What recommendations on the best bang for the buck would you have? Should I switch to an AMD or stay Intel, and if so what requirements come with the switch? Will i need to change anything else besides my Ram/cpu/motherboard? Also this will be my first time changing out a motherboard and processor, any tips while doing so? I appreciate the help!

okay yeah I was thinking as of right now the B450 would be my best bet for cost etc, as the X570's are newer and I hear are a little more power hungry than the B450's. As well as a decent cost difference. So with my new AMD Ryzen 3600 and B450 Tomahawk, would I need to upgrade my Ram at all?

it is DDR4, but only 2400mHz.

I don't think getting new RAM is absolutely mandatory. It'll help some sure, but I don't think it'll be that much of a problem. Then again, I haven't seen any real benchmarks with Ryzen 3000 and a large range of RAM timings/speeds.
okay so I looked a bit and I really think the Ryzen r5 3600 is the best bang for buck option. I have never done an AMD before. If I had to choose and Intel processor would be like an I7- 8700k as I have heard a lot of negative about getting an i5 before. If I stay Intel could I keep my same Ram, I know AMD requires a bit newer ram. And for my motherboard do I need to buy a specific AMD compatible board? Or is there something that I can do that potentially might keep me open for upgrades in the future? Sorry bit of a newbie here.

My current ram is 2x8g Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz

@logainofhades @TCA_ChinChin I appreciate your help!
