So I recently bought a new CPU the FX-6300.. now my mobo needed a quick BIOS update in order to support it.. that caused a small issue at first but was figured out... after I "thought: I had it running smoothly.. I began to get random BSOD crashes while playing games.. I ran multiple tests of all kind of each piece of hardware.. including memtest and the embedding mem diagnostic that windows 7 has.. and never found any problems with the RAM.. and yet I continued to get random crashes while playing games.. So I decided I would remove 1 pair of the RAM sticks and try running things with just 1 set... and whaddya know.. its been 48+ hours and NO crashes since removing that pair of sticks...

so my question is.. I know the type of RAM is dependent mostly on the compatibility with the MOBO.. but how much of a role does the CPU play in that?

Solution
check the bios with the old cpu you need the f 9 to have this fx 6300 work with the motherboard also the 4 gig memory sticks work at 1.5 and the 2 gig at 1.65 check this .http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3894#bios

That is essentialy what I did.. I had 12GB of RAM between 2 pair of sticks.. and removed the smaller of the pairs.. the 2x 2GB sticks, and since then I have not experienced any BSOD at all.. So I am guessing that pair that I took out was either defective.. or the new CPU just didnt like it.. I am not sure.. but 8gb or RAM is plenty for now..

I was just wondering if the CPU had any say so over what type and amount of RAM that was in the board

could it be that the ram you remove was not the same timmings as the other and not the same voltage, give the name and model of your motherboard and the same for the rma that in the system and the one you remove i would like to check this on the net .

No, the two sets were not the same timings.. but
like I said... it all worked just fine before i put the new CPU in.. afterwards.. i would get random crashes during games.. since I took that particular pair out.. no more crashes... but here is the info

I tried that too.. I tried the 2gig sticks in my system by themselves.. and in another system... and the other system wouldn't even boot with them in there... which is what lead me to believe they were bad.. but when I had them in my board.. and would run memtest or the memory diag that windows 7 has.. everything came back fine.. so I have no idea... I guess it really doesnt matter now .. everything works how it should.. so its whatever..
but the next time I buy RAM.. I need to know what I'm looking for.. I know I read something.. somewhere that talked about certain RAM not being compatible with the CPU.. and I have been trying to find something else that says that same, but have so far been unsuccessful
