cpu at 100% usage. help please

So I woke up today to find my computer running at 100% cpu usage under task manager. I never had this issue before. Everything was slow and unresponsive. I checked the process and the only process taking up cpu was chrome so it can't be a virus or anything. The cpu fan is still spinning. I restarted the computer and it seems a lot better. My brother said he restarted the computer 4+ times and the issue didn't go away. What can i do to prevent this or make sure it doesn't happen again? I'm guessing it happens from time to time? i dont know

Most likely a plugin gone rogue . Or an infected plug in gone rogue .

Uninstall chrome and use firefox would fix the situation permanently .
Kill the process in task manager first obviously

i have 8gb of ram so i'm not running out of memory. I have a i3 processor and i was able to run multiple chrome tabs with no lag. I seem to be getting like 15-30 fps in game with my gtx 780 so this doesnt make sense. Any help appreciated

Virus or Malware? They have all sorts of tricks to avoid detection.
First download Malwarebytes and download an a antivirus software, then run them both in safe mode.
Report back if the issue hasn't changed.

Ran a malware bytes scan but found nothing major 🙁 nothing unusual in processes taking up cpu.

Malwarebytes target malware specifically, a antivirus will aim at removing a virus. Try downloading Avast and do a full scan. Good luck, happy to assist further if needed
