Hi

i have just set up my new build with new thermal paste and a coolermaster 212 evo cooler for the CPU.

The CPU is a I7-4790k

At idle my cpu is at 25-30C
at 100% full load it maxes to 80C

is this safe and ok for my CPU?

Solution
The maximum junction temperature on Ivy Bridge was 105C but Intel reduced that a bit for Haswell, don't remember if it was 98C ot 102C but if you are going to overclock, you obviously do not want to get anywhere near that.

80C is a generally safe core temperature but at the upper end of what most overclockers feel comfortable with.

Less than 70C core temperature under load is a safe area many OCers like to be in - very low likelihood of causing any damage to the chip.

The 80C you read is the max package (IHS) temperature.

I would not recommend 80 degrees. Reinstall the cooler put a pea of paste on the centre of the CPU and screw down the Hyper 212 EVO. I wouldnt recommend OC'ing at all with a hyper 212 evo but some do and find it great. Personally I have a NHU14S which is nearly triple the price but a beast cooler. I have my i5 4690k OC'd to 4.4ghz with temps of 60 on full load.
