CPU at max frequency all the time

I overclocked my i5 8600k to 4.5ghz at 1.2v. Its always at 4.5ghz at idle and in game and im wondering if there is a way to drop the frequency when not using it and having max frequency in game. Thx

In windows power setting sounds like it is set to maximum performance. Check it and change it to what you want.

i changed it to balanced and at idle it gets to 1.2ghz but when i game it only goes to 3.6 to 4.5

That's normal its uping speed as it is needed.

What you could do is simply go to power settings when using your computer for gaming and set it to maximum performance and switch it back to balanced when not.

true but i thought there would be some setting like adaptive that goes max at gaming and min at idle
