CPU at max frequency with Win10 Fall Creators update

Has anyone else noticed that CPU frequency stays at its maximum frequency after applying the Fall Creators update (1709)? CPUID's HWMonitor is reporting as such anyway...

Seems to me that won't help with the life of the CPU.

Solution

No clock speed won't reduce your CPU life at all. Like i said, before all these newer generation CPUs with C states to reduce power consumption was introduced, all CPUs was running at 1 set clock speed only, no matter if idle or under full load. A 1GHz CPU would run at 1GHz all the time.

Working fine as in you're seeing frequency less than max at times?

You didn't tell which CPU you got, but my 7700K are running at 800MHz when idle.
Did you change the Windows power plan to performance as that could make the CPU stay at max clock speed all the time?

hmm... temp is fine. If by Vcore you're referring to voltage, that's good too. However, I've been told running constantly at the overclocked speed will reduce CPU life. However, your reasoning makes sense to me. :)

Windows was set to High performance before, when it was working OK. Besides, the motherboard is set to not allow Windows to control CPU performance.

looks like the 1.33 version of HWMonitor isn't playing nice with the Fall Creators update.

1.32 does however. Its showing the frequencies I would expect to see.

I verified with the Intel Power Gadget that the CPU frequency is dropping when idle - i.e. in line with what 1.32 version of HWMonitor is showing.

Thanks to Franck at CPUID for providing assistance.
