CPU: i7-9700k
RAM: 16gb Corsair pro 3600mhz RGB
Mobo: Rog Strix Z390-F Gaming
GPU: GTX 1070ti
CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken X63
Case NZXT H500
PSU: EVGA 850watt Bronze Semi modular

Hi everyone. I finished building my pc the other day. I started it up and everything was fine. I played some games and did a benchmark. I then shut it down for the evening but then came back to turn it on about 10 minutes later but it would not boot (Red CPU light on). Everything powers on but it just won’t post anything to the screen.

I have since replaced the motherboard (After resetting the CMOS and trying the RAM in different slots which didn’t work).

Even with a new motherboard it’s still bringing up the exact same red cpu light. Surely a brand new cpu which working fine moments before isn’t dead? If so how could this happen?

Any help would be much appreciated and I thnak

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

EVGA is the brand for the unit while 850 is the wattage. We will need to know the model for the PSU and it's age if it's been used for a while.

You might want to breadboard the system with the bare minimum(iGPU+one stick of ram+OS drive only) and see if the system shows signs of life. Gradually add hardware till you've found that adding a certain hardware is the cause of the seemingly dead system. If it does revive with bare minimum's, then the likely culprit can be that the PSU can't provide power for the entire system.

Hi,

The PSU is about a year old and I have tested it with my other CPU and Mobo (i7 4790/H97 Pro gamer) and it works fine.

The exact model is as following:

EVGA 850 BQ, 80+ BRONZE 850W, Semi Modular, Includes FREE Power On Self Tester, Power Supply 110-BQ-0850-V3

Thank you for your reply :)

When the computer fails to boot up, you may try out the below-mentioned tips to make it work:-

You should check for the power supply and if the cords are properly connected. Computers fail to start because of the issue with power and hence you should ensure that power supply is adequate.

Also, if the memory module is not connected properly with the motherboard then the computer fails to boot. In such a case, you should pull out the power cord and open the case, pull out the memory module, and put them back. You may have to repeat this process a few times. The dirt, corrosion, or an opened up gap can cause bad electrical contact, if you set it right then it should work in most of the cases.

Sometimes the operating system may fail and that may cause the computer not booting up. If the hardware is not the problem then there might be some more probable reasons like:-

The hard disk is outdated.

The essential files have become corrupt and gone missing.

There are some software that can help in scanning and repairing the corrupt files, you may find them after some research on the internet. You do not need to reinstall the operating system and the computer may work with the repair.

It may be a case that malicious Trojans, viruses have damaged the operating system of your computer. Such a case can be tricky to handle because even a robust Antivirus program cannot fix it up. The only way out is to recognize the files that have become corrupt due to the malicious attack and then repair them. Though, this is an uphill task.

The issue with the motherboard: - If the motherboard has failed then it is as good as the computer is dead. However, to arrive at this decision, first, you need to eliminate the other choices like memory modules, video cards, hard drives, etc.

If the motherboard has crashed then you should go for the replacement as it will still be cheaper than the cost of a computer.

Problem with the hard drive: - There may be a case when the hard drive just stops working. It is a tough situation because it means that you may lose all the data on the hard disk. You may get it fixed up but it will need you to hire specialist folks and it will cost a huge sum of money.
Hope these tips will help you resolve the boot up issues with your computer.
