Hi everybody,
I just bought a used gaming desktop with the followings specs:
Intel Pentium G3220
Radeon R9 280X 3gb DDR5
16Gb RAM DDR3
Motherboard ASUS B85 Pro Gamer

Im guessing that my CPU is not letting the 280X reach its full potential. Should I replace it?
What should I look for in the used marketing? Around 30€.
Something like 2Cores, 4Theards should boost my performance a little bit.

Thanks!!

Thank you.
The thing I just want to solve its the ocasional stutter or freezes during gameplay. Im not looking for a flawless 1080p ultra settings. Just a 1080p mixed settings to reach close to 60fps.
A cheap CPU that could do just that

i5 4670/4690, preferably if find a deal on i7 4770/4790. Don't go 2 cores / 2 threads, these cpus have no chance today. Four cores from the i5s will be much better. i7s are still going strong today just fyi but for what you want, i5 will also do well with your gpu. Don't go for the lower i5s, go for 46xx and up.

Your motherboard cant overclock but it supports all i3 i5 i7 on that platform : http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket_1150_LGA1150_H3.html
Best cpu with highest stock clock would be i7-4790k with 4000mhz clock and 4 cores 8 threads. I would suggest getting i7 from that list atleast, look for higher clock speed models and then you could even upgrade your gpu later on and get no bottleneck from that cpu in the next couple of years, unless you go something crazy like 1080ti 2070 2080 gtx

the i3 at 2C4T will be only marginally faster than what you have now, and is not really much better than a 2C2T, so it would be a waste. Flawlessness comes from the GPU, consistent speed comes from the CPU.

I5-4690k on ebay is @ $100. I7-4790k is @ $150. I7-4770 is @ $130. The i7's are worth the difference.

I've basically retired my i5-3570k, but my i7-3770K is still going strong, the difference between 4c/4t and 4c/8t is huge in comparison for many newer games. It's the difference between lower fps and 100% usage vrs higher fps and 55% usage, which does Alot for cpu temps.
