Some games are better optimized then others but another thing is that the 7400 is going to struggle with more open world games such as GTA V which is why your seeing lower performance. With Ryzen 3rd gen coming out soon the pricing has come down quite a bit for the first/second Gen Ryzen CPU's so that may be a worthwhile upgrade if you don't mind overclocking. Or if you prefer not to then the i5-9400F & a Asrock B365 motherboard would be a good choice with your 2060 and I would also recommend upgrading your monitor to 1440P as the 2060 would be better with that then 1080P. You should be able to reuse your memory but would be more beneficial to just buy a 2x8gb (2666) kit now as prices are pretty low.The strange thing is that the pc runs very good on forza horizon 4 and shadow of the tomb raider at very high-ultra settings but struggles at gta v ans fortnite that requires less specs than forza and tomb
They would both be a good upgrade but both are quite expensive. Both will require a aftermarket cooler as the stock one is garbage and won't cool either very well. The 8700 would be preferable but requires a new motherboard (same socket but 8th gen only works with H310/B360/B365/H370/Z370 & Z390). Honestly, the 9400F would be a better upgrade and would save you like $100+ over the 7700/8700 and actually outperforms the 7700 a little bit due to the two additional cores.Im gonna get a 2x8 corsair ram really soon. I dont have a problem with 1080P gaming so i will stick with my 1080p monitor. But my question is . Is an i7 7700 or 8700 a good upgrade?
It should last at least few years but nothing is ever really future proof with PC's. With the 8700 you gain 6 more threads however it would be hard, at least for me, to justify it for the extra $150 cost which could be better spent on cooling or a better/larger M.2 NVMe SSD.I heard the 9400F is better for value but is it future proof?
Yup, you'll need a new motherboard as well and when you swap out the motherboard it does require a clean install of Windows or you'll run into worse performance then what you currently have.So to sum it up An i5 9400f ans 2x8 ram would solve my problems and give me the performance i wanted for 1080P(60fps) ?
Unless you can find a 7700(K) for cheap I think your better off going with the 9400F/B365 (or B360 with updated BIOS) which even outperforms the 7700(K) in Passmark. If you live near a Microcenter you can usually get like $30 off with a CPU/MB bundle (may also include memory).Upgrading to 16gb is easy but getting a 7700 now is a bit hard
