Hi, i'm going to upgrade my GPU with an RX 6600 and since i have an i5-9600k i'm wondering if i'll get bottleneck. And if yes what effects does CPU bottleneck have and what can i do lower the impact it has on gaming?

Solution
9600 has a tendency of maxing out in busy games especially multiplayer at high frame rates. If you cap fps it shouldn't be a problem most of the time.

Then see here about adapters.

You're better off buying a new monitor, at least eventually since Dvi have gone the way of the DoDo. You'll also get freesync with new monitors so that'll be a plus.
Depends on the resolution and game you plan on playing.

Generally, increasing (yes, increasing) the resolution of the game, should reduce the load on the CPU, so if its running at high loads, it should take some of that off, and hopefully lower any possible bottlenecks.

The higher the resolution you're playing, the lower the chance of you having a CPU related bottleneck. Since the GPU takes longer to render in 4K than 1080p, it should kind of `slow down` the GPU so that that the CPU can handle it.

Depends on resolution, games and frame rate.

Fps = cpu
Graphics= well graphics, resolution etc.

9600k's fps level before bottoming out in advanced games would be somewhere around 80fps. Couldn't put a number in less demanding games like L4D, it'll be in the hundreds. Thats the cpu side of things and your monitor's refresh / Hz will play a big role in determining your CPU's limitations. Rx6600 is decent but not enough that shouldn't have 9600 struggle even in 1080p imo. What'll make cpu struggle first is games that require more than 6 cores.

actually i'm on 1080p since it's the maximum i think my monitor can handle (it's an asus one but it's like 10/12 years old) but how can i increase the resolution of a game if the slider can go max to 1920x1080? Also my PSU is and EVGA gold 850w so i'm fine

Cant increase resolution above optimal but what connections at the back does it have? Shouldn't matter if Dvi since you can get Hdmi to Dvi cables easily enough but if it's a 120Hz+ monitor over Dvi then adapters are expensive.

If your display is Hdmi and 60Hz, you can still enjoy your purchase with increased graphics + higher resolution scaling and antialiasing without taxing graphics card too much and still enjoy what your monitor is capable of.

i just noticed i wrote that i'm going to upgrade while i already took the gpu and put it in my pc. I just cleared my hdd and sdd so i had to reinstall things but it will take a lot since my internet is kinda slow. the only game i've been able to play for now is battlefield 2042 and i'm noticing that with the amd overlay my cpu is almost everytime at 100% while the GPU goes to 50% when i'm lucky. i'm noticing stuttering problems i think and looking at the percentages when i have the low frame moment my gpu goes <10% of usage with 100 fps average. Also with my old gpu i used a dvi dual link cable and i used 144hz but now since the gpu doesn't have the dvi connector (and the monitor doesn't have a displayport or 144hz hdmi connectors) i'm now stuck with 60hz so probably is the fact that 60s feels very laggy to me so i'll wait until i'll get used to it (so probably it's a mental thing). Also when i first tried to play i had big fps problems but after playing a bit with the amd setting i'm reaching the 100 fps.

i also want to add that at least im not overheating the cpu while gaming for like 30 min. with a max temperature of 53 (while opening the game or loading into a match i think) and an average of 40 to 45 in game.

its a 144hz over dvi but it does have an hdmi and vga port (only 60hz since im with an hdmi 2.0 cable and i cant put over 60hz). if i take an adapter (like hdmi to the gpu and dvi to the monitor for example) can i put a bigger resolution? also if im not mistaken there are apps that can upscale the resolution or in the gpu setting maybe i can find something?

oh so locking my fps at my monitor refresh for example could help me?

ok so i need to cap the fps closer to my refresh rate and increase the resolution (i'll try other games if they have the resolution slider since bf 2042 doesnt have one)
i agree to upgrade the monitor when i'll find one since yes i think im also bottlenecking because of the refresh rate.
for the adapters instead what should i look? on my gpu i have 3 display port and one hdmi while on the monitor i have one dvi dual link, one hdmi and one vga

Look at linus link and input fields, it'll describe what you need. Those adapters, a proper one, will be close to $100 new, unless you find cheaper for the same thing on ebay. I think just wait it out.
onestly at this point i can get a new monitor for like 150 or so i wont waste money for an adapter

anyway thanks for the advices i'll try doing the frame cap and the increase resolution thing
