Hey Guys, my birthday is on saturday and my friends are pitching in to get me a gtx 750ti, I desperatly need to upgrade from my GeForce 8600 GTS, so this is good. I am a bit concerned about bottlenecking though, due to my aging athelon 6000+ x2. i just need to know if i should upgrade to a core 2 quad q6600 or just stay at my current proccessor. i don't plan to play shadow of mordor at 4k and ultra settings, i honestly just want to play gta v with a playable framerate. and TF2 at max. So if i wanted to play GTA V on my current processor and a gtx 750ti, would i be SEVERELY bottlenecked? or can i keep my cpu and play at a decent framerate, i can knock down that resolution if i must.

Solution
I actually just got off testing a 750TI on a Core 2 Quad Q6600, Performance was CPU limited in most games. It did allow the system to play most MMOs and recent games on low, but that's about it. Fallout 4 was an exception, because it ran very poorly. The same GPU on an i7 6700K I also have allows Fallout 4 to be played at 1080p @ medium and a solid 50-60fps.

I wouldn't recommend playing GTA V with a 6000+ x2, you've going to start being CPU limited with a 750 TI with anything slower than a 2nd gen i3/1st gen i5.

Yes I am afraid so. The Athlon X2 is quite aged.

Q2Q is slightly newer, and much better for contemporary gaming, but still very outdated.

What is your current motherboard? (might be a decent Phenom X4/X6 that can be dropped in)

What do you have to spend?
