Think I found the problem. I found several bent pins on the CPU chip, my fault. In attempting to straighten same, broke one off, and consequently, threw said chip away. Now to order a new one. This one was a AMD 8320 FX, MOBO is a GA-970A-DS3P. Do I stay with this chip for this MOBO, or is there a better option for me? This was a combo purchase from TigerDirect for $160. Any and all suggestions welcome.

If you plan on overclocking, stay with the 8320. If not, I would get an 8350. I have one and it runs great for me.

I just threw that chip in the wastebasket, I can retrieve it if you think it will work. Checked prices of the chip, same as what I paid for both MOBO and chip when it was on sale.

Well maybe now that chip is really broken and probably you have thrown the pin that broke off. If you still have all the pins, straighten all of them and put the broken pin in the motherboard right where there should be a pin on the CPU

Not gonna happen woworwow. These almost 70-year old eyes ain't what the used to be. (Ain't nothin' like it used to be). Just fished it out, tried it again, broke a few more, and tossed it for good this time. Put the original MOBO back in the case, just like it was befo', and get no video on the monitor. Don't know what the problem is with that one either. Guess I'll sleep on it. Maybe it's just time to start over?

You are quite right! It is done. I ordered another CPU Sunday evening, along with a new PSU and a new case too. Ordered the FX-6300, Rosewill Hive 550 PSU (hope this is compatable, does not appear on PCPARTSPICKER) and a Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 mid-tower gaming case. What do you think? Now if my MOBO is still good..
guess I'll find out later this week.

Your MOBO is fine.
But i would consider using cheaper case and PSU to get a better GPU for gaming.
When i say cheap PSU it doesn't mean you need to have bad PSU. Corsair CX 430 is good enough for mid range GPu or No GPU at all

Made small error when I said the PSU was the 550W, it was the 650W. Items are already on order, last one should arrive on Thursday this week. I plan on an upgrade to the GPU in the coming future, probably before winter sets in again. I still can't figure out why I have no video output from the video card. I don't see any plugin terminal on it for power, so it must get the power from the MOBO. Got me stumped. I'll look at it some more tonight..
