i want to use ryzen 3000 but I want to do that under 400$. the problem is I only have 2400mhz ram. I want to get a 3600 but can I run a 3700X on a b450. I was thinking the MSI A Pro. would this be a fine combo? Or should i get a 3600, MSI B450 tomahawk, and 3000mhz ram?

If this is for gaming the 3600 is more then enough. There's alot of benchmarks that show the two CPUs perform extremely similar for games, if you plan on streaming and gaming then the 3700X may be a better option.

Although you will take a hit on performance for RAM speed, if you plan on streaming while gaming I think teh extra cores of the 3700X would outweigh it, and you can upgrade the RAM later on. But if you just plan on game the 3600 and faster RAM is my recommendation.

If you have a 8100 why not just buy a 8700? You get 6 cores and hyper-threading to 12 threads. You wont need a new motherboard and slow RAM doesn't really affect Intel that hard

As far as overclocking, from my understanding unless you go super heavy the befit on the 3000 chips is minimal.
