Good Day Friendly People, I am wanting to upgrade the CPU that's currently in my dell Optiplex 755 Mini tower. I did some research to see which ones are compatible and found some. I am debating whether or not to get the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 LGA775 2.93 GHz Quad-Core CPU Processor or the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Processor 3.0 GHz 12 MB Cache Socket LGA775. I am still iffy on the Intel Core 2 Extreme because it might not fit, that's why I am asking here. If I have to make a Bios update can you guys tell me how to do it and preferably I don't want to update bios to avoid the hassle, but if I have to then so be it. If there are any more CPU's that are better than the ones I posted please feel free to show me, I am looking for a CPU that can make a big improvement on playing my racing games, my main concern is if they are compatible and if a bios update is needed. My budget is no higher than $100. Below is the information on my Mini Tower. All help is appreciated, thank you.

Keep in mind, Just because it has the same socket does not mean every CPU will be compatible. The two you listed have different bus speeds. You motherboard may or may not work with them.

I've a Dell Optiplex 755 as well so I think I can speak with some authority here. And the truth of the matter is; I'm running a Core 2 Duo E8400 with an FSB of 1333MT/s!

How come, you ask?

Well, the 755 has a Q35 Express southbridge chip which supports ALL bus frequencies (800/1066/1333) so all x86 Core processors are supported. About the only LGA775 processors it doesn't support are old Pentium 4 based Netburst Processors so you're misleading The OP here, I'm afraid.

Don't go with 6700. Go all the way to Q9650. Just don't forget to update your BIOS to revision A22.
