PLEASE ANSWER MY QUERY.
I have an old DG 31 PR lga 775 Board
I HAVE A CHOICE BETWEEN the following PC SYSTEMS.
1)Q9550 or Q9505
2)i3 530/i5 750
3)Amd athlon 630 2.5 ghz
What I want To know is whether the quad cores the support for which the intel companies have discontinued
will be future proof for 3 yrs as against i5 750 for games(incl high end,(bear in mind that most games today even run well on a core 2 Duo 2.5 ghz)
THE BASIC REASON WHY I AM INTERESTED IN BUYING Q9505 is BECAUSE OF THE OLD BOARD
I CANT BUY A LGA 1366 socket so the i5(lga 1156) board and the am3 socket boards other on my criteria are for future upgradability.
IMP POINTS-
1) if Q9505 is a good bet 3yrs+ my system cost will me 400$
2)If i5 750 is a good bet 3yrs+ my system cost will be 500$
I dont want to unecessarily invest in lga 1156 Socket or AM3 Socket if future games for 3 yrs will just play as well on Q9505 with a good Graphics Card than with i5 750. I will buy a whole New CPU after 3 yrs.

For what it will cost you for the Q9550 you can go with an I5 or a PhenomII x4 either one will outperform a Q9550 and cost alot less. Socket 775 is dead and not being manufactured so to buy a Q9550 its gonna cost over 300 for a used and obsolete processor its not worth dropping that kind of cash on a socket 775. Your best option would be the I5 750 the cheapest option would be An AMD Phenom II x4 965BE.
