I have an eMachines El1358g-51w, and I am upgrading the PSU, CPU, Case, and RAM. Is the AMD Athlon x4 750k (http://) compatible with my motherboard, BIOS, and chipset? Here is a newegg link to my exact pc: http://

The chipset is NVIDIA nForce 430. The current CPU is an athlon ii x2 220. All the information is provided in the links. All I need to know is if I can put the 750k in my motherboard. I AM upgrading my PSU too, so I should have enough power for it.

Can you supply me with 1 or 2 links to CPUs that are compatible for me to upgrade to? I just want something above 3.0Ghz

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find new processors for the AM3 socket now. If you are willing to go used, check ebay.

Unless you have the CPU support list for the proprietary MB the PC has, you will be taking a chance on any processor you try to use. AMD, like Intel, has brought out newer and newer CPUs over the years for that socket. Quite often, with each new chip a BIOS update is required for the board to recognize the newer processor.
But since you have the Athlon II X2 220 (circa May/Jul 2010) in it now, I would expect any Athlon II or Phenom II of that era or before to work. You can use this link to search out when various Athlon II quad cores were introduced: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/TYPE-Athlon%20II%20X4.html
Likewise with the Phenom II quad cores: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/TYPE-Phenom%20II%20X4.html
Then see what is available used someplace like ebay.

The other alternative, of course, is to do a MB change as well.

Compatible, yes. Whether or not the BIOS will recognize it w/o an update, I can't say because the 840 is a newer chip by about a year.

Here's a fellow that claims it worked on his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUyy_S-1gVk

You always take a chance with any used processor. You never know how many hands it went through before it was sold to you, or how it was abused. I have had mostly good results buying used processors, but I have had to sand some back too. The main thing to verify is returns, background of seller and...
with AMD CPUs, that they are shipped in their clam shell case to avoid bent pins. Make sure the seller has the clamshell case to ship it in. AMD CPUs have exposed pins that get bent easily. If there's no way to communicate w/the seller, avoid him.

You want me to guess? Ok, I'll guess. I think so.

Do you need a CPU upgrade? That will depend on the gfx card you end up with, the resolution of your monitor, and the games you play. If you get too powerful of a card, the CPU will bottle neck it and you won't get full performance from the card. If you game at low rez, you obviously won't need as powerful a CPU/GPU combination as you would at high rez.
