cpu cooler backplate?

If I have an aftermarket cooler that fits my motherboard's socket, but I'm missing the backplate that came with the cooler, could I use the backplate from the stock cooler? Are these compatible?

Depends on what aftermarket cooler and what stock cooler...

But since you already have them you might as well try for yourself.

Though I don't know what stock cooler from Intel or AMD that requires a backplate.

I'd do a google search for the new cooler's backplate and see if it is of similar design to the stock one. If it is, then it's probably fine. But if it looks like a different or sturdier design, then i wouldn't risk it.

I would recommend having the backplate that belongs to the cooler.

What cooler is it? Some coolers, like the Cooler Master TX4, or the Arctic Cooling A30 Freezer, utilize the stock backplate.

Stock Coolers normally dont come with a back plate, they just plug into the motherboard, or latch on for the AMD ones. Only aftermarket coolers comes with back plates. And its best to use the same one, cause if you use a different one, the bottom of the heatsink might not make contact with the CPU due to different sizes.
