Well I messed up and bought a cooler master V8 CPU cooler for my 1150 Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H build. Is there anything I can buy to install it on my motherboard?

Solution

The hole spacing for all Intel 5, 6, 7, and 8 series chipsets is the same. There are only some minor compatibility issues with X79 motherboards due to the lack of a reference cooler and many motherboards having built in backplates. All LGA1156, LGA1155, and LGA1150 sockets are identical as far as cooling is concerned. The holes should line up.

Not quite sure, but when I screwed the brackets on to the cooler and placed it over the motherboard the holes did not line up

On Sunday I will have time to try putting the brackets on and seeing if maybe I made a dumb mistake the first time around. Especially based on what you said.
