Question CPU Cooler Fan Makes Weird Rattling Noise and Fan Stops Spinning

I have a cooler master hyper 212 evo that I have been using to cool my CPU for 2 years now. It worked perfectly fine until this morning when I started up my PC and then I heard a weird rattling noise coming from what seemed to be the Cpu fan. Then I saw that it stopped spinning every couple of seconds. The system boots up and everything and I can use the PC but every couple of minutes the fan starts rattling and then it stops and does it continuously for a few minutes before the fan just starts spinning normally again. I already tried cleaning all the dust and used air cans to get as much of the dust off the heat sink and fan but nothing seems to be working. There also isn't anything in the way and the fan spun normally when shooting air at it with the compressed air. Does anyone know a possible solution?

What is the model of your motherboard? Is there a CPU_OPT fan header on it? If so, you might want to make sure that it's profile is enabled in the BIOS and try the fan on that header to see if it's a fan controller problem or the fan itself. Or, try a different fan on the CPU_FAN header that the current fan is attached to. Most likely this is probably a PWM circuit failure of either the fan or board.

The 212 coolers come with very cheap fans, and replacing it is probably the next step but honestly you can get a much better cooler for around the same price as a good fan, that itself will COME with a pretty good fan.
