Not sure if this is the correct place. I'm building a custom case and I'm wondering if there would be any concerns with the following situation: I'd like to remove the CPU cooler's fan and position it 1 to 2 inches above the heatsink fins. The fan would be upgraded from it's stock 120mm to a 140 or 200mm fan which I would like to provide cooling for the CPU as well as the rest of the small system it's installed in. Regardless of the exact sizes and distances here, is there any problem with having my CPU fan pull double duty like this?

Thanks!

unless you overclock there is no need to worry about the mosfets and other componets beside the cpu.Its best left alone,Only do it if you exactly know what you are doing. But there is no need to do it too.

Actually what I'm wondering is if a large enough CPU fan properly positioned could ALSO serve as the general case fan, providing airflow for a hard drive and the motherboard in general and the memory, Plus the PSU if I had a fanless PSU etc...? Would 1 200mm fan not provide enough airflow for EVERYTHING in a normal gaming rig (other than vid card) or should I still look at putting a separate discrete fan on everything that typically has it's own fan?

almost all psu''s has a fan.what you are saying sounds really unorthodox. Its better to create a positive pressure in case by use of more than just a cpu fan,
